My Issue: I am using Windows 10 on an Asus G14 laptop and I have normally kept it up to date. I’ve been having an issue with various menus not showing any text or tabs. Please see two example screen shots: example_1 or example 2. This issue is prevalent across multiple menus in windows. For example, I cannot see any wifi networks so I cannot connect to the internet.
Additional Context: For the record, I have pirated video games on this machine and Windows Defender has often caught the cracks and removed them. It did catch a trojan once, but that game wasn’t installed; it was caught when it was just downloaded as an ISO and it has since been deleted. This problem also pre-dates the trojan game.
Prior Literature: I’ve seen other people describe similar issues, but there often seem to be different menus that are broken. Some people have issues with context menus and other people are describing issues with the search bar.
Prior Attempts: Most of the solutions repeated using commands from the command line (administrator)
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
I’ve also seen some people recommend making a new user account on the machine, but that did not work. Note: I had to make the account via the command line because the GUI menus were broken (the source of the problem). I’ve also seen some links/youtube videos recommend various reg-edits but they do not seem to have the exact same problem as me.
If anyone has any advice on how to solve this issue, please advise. I’ve also seem some people recommend using a Windows bootable usb to do a repair install; this is possible but it is a bit difficult to get ahold of a computer that can make a bootable usb right now. My only alternative would be to do a “clean” install of windows on the machine.
