network monitoring – Skype SYN_SENT flood brings down modem/router on Kubuntu 20.10?

We’re having trouble connecting to the internet for an extended period of time, even with 2 power reboots of the router/modem. So I thought I’d look at what was happening on the network. My skype (only app on internet) was running, so I did:

Is this from skype trying to access the network, or is it more like someone is flooding my skype/system to bring down my network?

I stopped skype, and the network recovered. I used skype for an extended period after this, and experienced no difficulties.

I’m pretty much a Kubuntu/Linux newbie. Should I be looking on the Skype forums? Next time it happens, if it does, I will do netstat -natop

How to upgrade Kubuntu? – Ask Ubuntu

Sorry this is a really basic question. I’ve only been using Kubuntu for a week or two, and a lot of it is unfamiliar to me still. I did a search, and tried things like sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and sudo do-release-upgrade -m desktop, but nothing I’ve tried has worked…. and I suspect it shouldn’t be that hard.

I’m used to using a system that automatically updates itself every day, so it is bizarre to me that I can’t even update manually without putting some effort in to it. What’s going on here?

kubuntu – MSFT All-in-one keyboard touchpad not working

I’m trying to use an external Microsoft All-in-one keyboard on a fresh install of my distro.
The keyboard itself works out of the box, even the keyboard shortcuts.
Unfortunately, the integrated touchpad seems to be detected but is not usable at all.

General informations:

OS: Kubuntu 20.10 x86_64
Kernel: 5.8.0-50-generic

I’ve installed all the necessary (?) packages such as xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I’ve seen a few posts and bug reports on launchpad about this issue (or similar), but none of the given solutions worked for me.
The touchpad even appears in Kubuntu’s GUI in Touchpad settings (as Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v2.0 Mouse). External mouse and integrated laptop’s touchpad work just fine.

I couldnt find the exact model of the keyboard, but it looks like it’s the N9Z-00001 keyboard.

So why does the external touchpad (mouse) seems like it’s being detected but is not working at all ?
I will provide some more informations if needed, thank you !

How do I fix the extremely small Kubuntu Interface font using NVidia Proprietary drivers?

I have a AMD CPU with a GTX 1050Ti GPU.
Installed the latest version of KUbuntu 20.04.2 LTS in the UEFI mode and secure boot disabled.
First time installed Kubuntu without third party software being checked. In this case the Kubuntu X.Org X Server driver from Kubuntu worked fine until I started the Android Emulator. The emulator kept crashing with the Kubuntu display driver. Switched to the NVIDIA driver and the Kubuntu interface font is unviewable now but the Android Emulator works perfectly fine.
Tried the scripts given in post but nothing worked for me.
Re-installed Kubuntu with 3rd party software checked during installation. This was even worse than the previous install. In this case under Kubuntu X.Org X Server driver also the Kubuntu interface font unviewable at all. The NVIDIA driver also did not help improve the interface font. Android Emulators as earlier worked well under the NVIDIA drivers but not under the Kubuntu display drivers.

I have trying to resolve this issue for the past 2 days. Any help will be highly appreciated.

Grub lost after dual boot 2015 Macbook pro MacOS to Kubuntu Linux

I partitioned my hard drive on 2015 Macbook Pro in order to install Linux. I have successfully installed Linux on my macbook pro, but when I shut down or restart, it doesn’t give me an option to boot MacOS that is on the hard drive. How can I switch between MacOS and Linux now? I should have dual boot and be given the option after starting my laptop?

No sound on Kubuntu 20.10 / Dummy Output, No audio devices showing

I’ve been having this reoccurring issue where the sound doesn’t work on Kubuntu. It shows on the Sound icon a slash through it and it says there’s “Dummy Output” with none of my sound devices showing.

When I connect my Bluetooth headphones it does have sound through those, just not anything else.

How do i fix this?
