I have run out of methods but still have no clue how to solve the problem so I am desperately in need for help.

install – Big Sur 11.3 : rebuild the index of all installed Macport packages

Following a lot of error messages when I wanted to install a Macport package on my new MacOS book pro Big Sur 11.3, and having no problem on another MacBook with Big Sur 11.3 also, I decided to do a “raw” copy of the directory /opt/local from the working MacBook to the first one with which I have problems.

Now, I would like to rebuild an index of all Macport packages copied on the new MacBook.

Indeed, if I want to install a Macport package, I get :

sudo port search listofitems
Password:
Error: Current platform "darwin 20" does not match expected platform "darwin 19"
Error: If you upgraded your OS, please follow the migration instructions: https://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration
OS platform mismatch
    while executing
"mportinit ui_options global_options global_variations"
Error: /opt/local/bin/port: Failed to initialize MacPorts, OS platform mismatch

Have I to copy an index file from the working Macport installation of other MacBook on the new one ? I didn’t find such a file.

As you can see above in the error messages, there seems to be a problem of platform :

Error: Current platform "darwin 20" does not match expected platform "darwin 19"

Please, if someone could help me to rebuild the new packages installed, rather copied in a raw way, but I hope this is possible to get this current index file.

Any help would be fine.

partitioning – Cannot delete LVM (to install Ubuntu 20.04)

I would like to install Ubuntu 20.04 from scratch. I booted on a live USB, but the install failed as my previous lvm partition /dev/ubuntu-mate-vg could not be removed. Using gparted (after deactivating the partition), it fails on the command:

lvm pvremove --force --force --yes '/dev/sda3'
WARNING: PV /dev/sda3 in VG ubuntu-mate-vg is using an old PV header, modify the VG to update.
WARNING: PV /dev/sda3 is used by VG ubuntu-mate-vg.
WARNING: Wiping physical volume label from /dev/sda3 of volume group "ubuntu-mate-vg".
Error writing device /dev/sda3 at 512 length 512.
bcache_invalidate: block (5, 0) still dirty
Failed to remove label from /dev/sda3 at sector 1
Failed to wipe existing label(s) on /dev/sda3.

Following Remove lvm to install Ubuntu I tried to fill the drive with zeros with:

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda3 bs=8M

(which eventually failed with “out of space”).
I still get the issue above.
Any idea?
Thanks a lot!

apt – Ubuntu 21.04 – Install a package (caffe-cuda) from Ubuntu 18.04

I have to install Caffe for a project in my university. I am new to Ubuntu and I am using it since I wasn’t able to build Caffe on Windows at all.

I have tried following the original tutorial. If I run sudo apt install caffe-cuda, I get the error Unable to locate package caffe-cuda. I understand, based on this, that this package is only available in 18.04 repositories. If I understand correctly, there is an easy way to get these packages, but unfortunately, after I run sudo apt update, a bunch of errors pop up, like

E: The repository 'http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security InRelease' is not signed.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
W: GPG error: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 3B4FE6ACC0B21F32
E: The repository 'http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates InRelease' is not signed.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
W: GPG error: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic InRelease: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 3B4FE6ACC0B21F32

E: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/danielrichter2007/grub-customizer/ubuntu hirsute Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

And if I run apt-cache search caffe, caffe-cuda is not there.

Right now, the only solution that comes to my mind is manually installing each package with its dependencies, but since every dependency has a dependency and so on, I was hoping there was an easier way.

I ask to you: am I missing something? What am I doing wrong? Why can’t I get 18.04 packages cleanly?

web hosting – SolidCP – Install successful, but now getting issues with application pool not starting – service unavailable

Here´s my basic setup:

  • Windows Server 2012 2R
  • SQL Server 2016

I’ve managed to install SolidCP on the server. Had a few issues during installation, but solved it. Also completed the extra setting on the application pool and on the website configuration, as the video showed. But now, I can’t access the portal yet (http://localhost:9001). The application pools won’t start the pools for all SolidCP applications

And the error log messages (WAS) I’m getting are:
5022 – The Windows Process Activation Service failed to create a worker process for the application pool ‘SolidCP Portal Pool’. The data field contains the error number.
5002 – Application pool ‘SolidCP Portal Pool’ is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool.

I’ve consulted the solidCP forum and double checked that the SolidCP users (SCPPortal, SCPEnterprise, SCPServer) on the server are member of the group IIS_IUSRS

Anyone has any idea on what I’m missing out?

networking – No network connection after fresh debian install

Today I built a new PC, installed debian, during installation it was downloading additional packages from deb.debian.org mirror, so connection to internet must have been fine, however after installation my debian is not connected to the network at all.

The command ip a shows only “lo” device. In /etc/network/interfaces I can see a device: enx3c18a002d1c5. If I try to do ifup enx3c18a002d1c5 then is says:

Cannot find device "enx3c18a002d1c5"
Failed to get interface index: No such device
