gnome – In terminal under GUI session, Oo produces “/” character

When in a GNOME3 GUI login session, pressing ESC, O, o in quick succession in a terminal window produces a ‘/’ character rather than entering those keystrokes. This is problematic when running Vim where I often want to break out of Insert mode and quickly start a new line of text above the current one.

Other key sequences starting with ESC O behave similarly: ESC O q yields “1”; …w a “7”, etc. Many also work as expected.

The time window for entering these keys and triggering the effect seems to be able 2 seconds while in Vim, and considerably shorter on the command line.

While in a console login via CTRL ALT F6, this behaviour is not observed.

It also does not occur in other apps like Chrome, Text Editor, or GVim.

It does occur under both Guake and Terminal.

I also observed the same behaviour in a WSL install of Ubuntu on a Windows 10 machine. There do not seem to be any common configuration elements between the two home directories that are suspect.

I have not checked the behaviour under other desktops such as LXDE or KDE.

Is this a feature of GNOME? Is there some way to disable it?

How to install bluetooth that has a GUI with it

Just looking to install bluetooth on Linux… I don’t know why this is such a problem it’s not like I don’t write fcking software all damn day but dear god if you try to get bluetooth to work on linux with various devices good luck.

I have this blueman thing installed I launch it from the menu thing I have at the bottom of my screen and nothing appears. I DO NOT WANT A BLUETOOTH COMMAND LINE.

If anyone has a bluetooth package that comes with a GUI so I can actually see what devices are connected and if bluetooth is enabled that would be great.

I have a custom interface on Ubuntu 20. KDE Plasma.

gui – Unity UI circular clickable area

I’m building some somewhat involved UI stuff using the Shapes vector package.

I need to be able to detect clicks on a circle, but also need to be able to click on things right next to that circle in all directions (it’s a large circle).

I can limit the detected clicks to within the circle by simply using a square and checking distance of click from center of circle. But this still obscures clickable things behind the square but outside of the circle (in the corners of the square).

How can I detect those?

gui design – Alternative to TAB layout to show three different pages connected

I have an app where from the home page the user enter in a page built like:

  1. List of all registered documents from which the user can choose one of them and send it to the server with a bottom app bar from which by pressing + the user can create a new document.
  2. New document it’s a page FORM like where the user has to compile the data about the document
  3. Body it’s the part where the user has to insert all items which belong to that document

For now i show all it in a TAB menu the issue is that there are lot of scrollable elements and a TAB layout it’s not appropriate as the user can swipe between views mistakely.

Here is a preview of how it looks like:

gui design – Visual hierarchy of typography in UI in practice

There are so many resources about this in theory, but I can’t find any detailed guides or resources on how to apply the principles in an existing complex UI. The most obvious ones would be differentiation by copy size, in many UIs like in facebook and youtube that manage to pull off a good hierarchy at the micro level as well as the macro level.

What would be a good guide or process to follow?

gui design – How to showcase additional menu level items within the current menu UI without breaking it

We have an app that lets users modify their face as they are taking selfies.

Under the Beauty option, users have the option to Smooth their skin, add Lipstick, edit Eyes, etc. The user can see in real time how these changes happen in their selfie.

Smoothing skin offers a simple slider to calibrate level of smoothness.
Lipstick, Blush and Tint allows users to choose a color and calibrate opacity.

However, eyes is more complex. In addition of choosing eye color and opacity, users can also choose to (1) Whiten or (2) add Details and adjust how much with the slider.

enter image description here

We want to reduce the introduction of new UI levels / components to keep the experience as simple and consistent as possible.

So far we have tried 2 approaches:

A. Show Whiten and Details within the color menu level. What the slider controls changes per user selection (whiten = adjust whiteness, detail = adjust level of detail, color = adjust opacity of color).

enter image description here

B. Introduce an accordion within the main menu which expands to show the second level of options. This solution seems more novel, however the transition of having something expand + color menu show up might be too busy for the user.

What are your opinions? Other pros and cons you can think of? What’s an alternative solution to consider?

Once successfully broadcast, your transaction will be entered into the mempools of other nodes on the network, and it will eventually be confirmed in a block when it’s fee-rate becomes competitive. This will occur whether or not you keep your wallet/node online in the meantime. So once your transaction is broadcast to the network you can exit the program without any issue.
