macbook pro – WindowServer High CPU using external monitor – Big Sur

So, few bits of context

  • I’ve got a MacBook 12″ from 2017
  • It’s connected to an external monitor via USB-C to a Satechi V2 dongle and then HDMI to the monitor

I’m experiencing a few things:

  1. Stuttering when I move windows (like dropping frames)
  2. Videos stutter when my mouse pointer is in motion
  3. WindowServer in Activity Monitor shoots through the roof of CPU usage when I move my mouse a lot
  4. The above is accompanied by the beach ball

See screenshot
Activity monitor with high Window Server CPU usage

I’ve had a bit of a speedup by disabling “Displays have seperate spaces” in the System Preferences, but it’s still happening. It’s also slowing down game animations as when my mouse it moving, games won’t animate.

Any thoughts?

performance – CPU for SQL Server

We want to buy a new server for SQL server,

We have around 10 DB, and heavy jobs every 10 minutes to process millions of records,

Also, we have around 20 end users,

We want to know what is the best CPU for this server,

and what is the advantage/disadvantage of option2 vs option1 (is the same cores)

and multi – CPU vs multi-core, option 1 vs option 3 with more clock speed, but 2 smaller CPU,

power management – Would undervolting cpu interfere with tlp?

My CPU is running very hot. Idle’s at around 55-65C and while normal usage (like browsing, watching a youtube video, etc) goes upto 85C and reaches 101C while in extreme conditions (like playing csgo or rendering a video). I even did a full cleaning of the laptop, blowing all the dust from the fan and even reapplying thermal paste but well that didn’t help at all. So now I was thinking about undervolting my CPU. My question is, I have tlp installed for battery stuff, so would undervolting the cpu interfere with tlp and what it does? for context I have a thinkpad t430s with an i5 3320m and debian buster installed

How to get cpu FLOPS by SEHLL

I want to get FLOPS under linux system according to CPU. I found some information here, but it only lists the FLOPS of some instruction sets, not all of them. For example, my cpu instruction set is avx2, it only has avx1, not avx2. How can I get the FLOPS according to the CPU model, it is best to get it through the command in the terminal.

mac – Does this crash error mean i fried my ram or cpu?

I had originally posted this in hardware but they recommended I try superuser instead.

Did I cook my CPU, ram or is this a “solvable problem” and if yes what are some options? I’m posting this in hardware since a friend said this is more appropriate here but I’m not sure.

I’ve been learning NLP, machine learning, neural nets and when I run code I’m using an old iMac that doesn’t have a GPU so its CPU gets hot.

At first, I didn’t think it was hurting things but over time it seems to give my iMac a limp so I bought a 5,1 MacPro with a GPU and that solved the speed/cooling issue.

So my iMac is my daily machine at my desk for development, it keeps generating a similar error whenever I start to run a more intensive app.

They all display “(Application) quit unexpectedly”

Then I get a 200+ line error message that almost always looks this. I apologize in advance for how the error message is formatted as I’m still trying to learn StackOverflow formatting of the code in the posts.

It crashed like this for iTunes last night and Pycharm this morning when I went to debut a fairly simple bit of homework. I could share that code if you like.
