Sports – How to draw attention to signs of exhaustion by exercise.

From time to time I take pictures of myself or my loved ones immediately after finishing a race or other competition. In person, they look exhausted: sweaty, red-faced and bright. In the photos, they (or me when I take a selfie, look slightly sick).

What are the best established practices, either on camera or in post, to produce photos that show a clear physical exhaustion?

An equivalent question could be: I am photographing people in the final line of an Ironman competition, how to highlight the exhausting nature of the event?
