seo – How to handle duplicate content for different routes in Sitemap?


I have a currency conversion website.

Basically it is a single page with the converter component and some information about the currencies, some charts, etc.

The routes that I want to index by Google are:

https://www.example.com/converter/usd-jpy
https://www.example.com/converter/usd-gbp
https://www.example.com/converter/gbp-usd
AND SO ON

The problem is that I want to use my home / root paths to preselect the country's currency, and they result in one of the converter page paths.

For example:

https://www.example.com      // THIS IS FOR USA       (hreflang="en-US" in my Sitemap)
https://www.example.com/ca   // THIS IS FOR CANADA    (hreflang="en-CA" in my Sitemap)
https://www.example.com/au   // THIS IS FOR AUSTRALIA (hreflang="en-AU" in my Sitemap)

And since you would preselect the currencies for those countries, you would get:

USA       - currency1: EUR currency2: USD
CANADA    - currency1: USD currency2: CAD
AUSTRALIA - currency1: USD currency2: AUD
https://www.example.com       WOULD BE THE SAME HTML AS:   https://www.example.com/converter/eur-usd
https://www.example.com/ca    WOULD BE THE SAME HTML AS:   https://www.example.com/converter/usd-cad
https://www.example.com/au    WOULD BE THE SAME HTML AS:   https://www.example.com/converter/usd-aud

Basically those root paths would be duplicates for the converter paths for those specified currencies. Maybe the page title and description would be a little different, but most of it would be the same.

Should I declare those start / root paths in my Sitemap?

I mean, it would be really weird not to include my home / root path in my Sitemap. But I guess it's an option, from what Google suggests below:

Basically they say the sitemap should contain canonicals only, so maybe I shouldn't add those start / root paths to my sitemap. However, they will be traceable through internal links.

What is my best option in this case?

Another possible solution would be to create some content that is country specific to be able to add to those start / root paths and try to make them different from mere converter routes. But I'm not exactly sure what the minimum% of different content a page should have for it not to be considered duplicate of another.
