Maintenance for 8 hours? | Web Hosting Talk

I wonder if an 8 hour maintenance is fair.

I would say that in certain cases it can be considered fair. For example, if one or more of your hard drives have failed and you are rebuilding the RAID configuration or restoring from backup copies … these events occur from time to time and the rebuild / restore process can take a long time.

Looking at your status page seems to be a migration maintenance. As I recall, this would not take up to 8 hours of downtime, but I guess it depends on the amount of data that is migrating and the method they use to migrate it. I would still call it & # 39; right & # 39; because providers have to migrate from time to time, due to several possible reasons: changing hardware, changing upstream providers, moving to a different data center, etc. The only thing I would say was not really fair was not to send an email in advance and notify the customers … I would understand this if it was an unplanned maintenance, but it seems that this was not the case.

PS: I just saw Cody's response about sending a notice in advance, so everything seems to have been done by the book.
