accessibility: how to activate the extended mouse pointer without moving the mouse

There is a function in OS X at least from El Capitan, but possibly before, that enlarges the mouse pointer when you wave it. In fact, it's called Shake the mouse pointer to locate (under Accessibility > Monitor) and is enabled by default.

I want to be able to briefly "click" the size of the pointer to draw attention to something on the screen, but without moving the pointer away from what I am trying to highlight.

I know there are third-party add-ons that do this kind of thing by drawing things on the screen where the pointer is located, but does anyone know if it is possible to activate the operating system's mouse extension briefly, apart from shaking the mouse? ?
