14.04: do John's static ffmpeg compilations require libraries?

I am trying to run ffmpeg with ubuntu 14.04. I downloaded the latest git compilation from https://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/

But when I try to execute any ffmpeg command, it complains that many libraries are missing as

libfdk-aac.so.1
libva.so.2
libass.so.9
libSDL2-2.0.so.0

Just to name a few … is not the point of a static compilation not requiring anything else to run? Or am I doing something wrong?

I feel there are infinite libraries that I have to install to make it work. Is there any way to install everything you need?

And I think most of the libraries in repositories 14.04 would be super old, right?
